Toko's Nyoki Nyoki Cypress Knees

Toko's Nyoki Nyoki Cypress Trees are ceramic sculpture which depict cypress knees often seen in the swamps of Florida springs. The works were installed in Dunedin Fine Arts Center's "Contain It!" exhibition, a series of installation works inside a PODS container.

"Nyoki Nyoki" is a term used to describe a vigorous growth which emerges out in abundance in Japanese onomatopoeia. While the inspiration comes from cypress knees which grow very slowly, the sculpture also looks similar to bamboo shoots, which in comparison, grow extremely fast.

The obsessive morphing of Toko's possibility to turn into anything powerful and maybe even invasive, depict a take over of Toko into your space.
