Lord's Prayer
“Our Father, who art in heaven, hallowed be thy name; thy kingdom come; thy will be done on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread; and forgive us our trespasses as we forgive those who trespass against us; and lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil.” “The Lord’s Prayer” illustrates the artists interpretation of one of the most iconic prayer in Christianity. Nogami was baptized in the Suwannee River in Florida in 2016. This series was created as devotion to the prayer, a personal process to understand the power of the passage and an example to the viewers to identify the borderless possibility this verse holds. The illustrations convey the idea that the Lord can be universal, exist in a quaint setting, demonstrating mindfulness towards each believer’s “culture” to be equally important, however unconventional. Toko models the strife of life, faith, devotion, generosity, forgiveness and deliverance as the key elements of this prayer. To believe, to serve and to love all God’s creatures, is universal.
